4 Wyoming Must Have Cook Books From Our Kitchen To Yours

Wyoming Buffalo Company

Written By: Sarah Reish

Lisa from Wyoming Buffalo Company is at it again, highlighting some amazing details about our amazing state of Wyoming. As a sponsor she continues to focus and celebrate amazing artisans and people who continue to provide unique pieces that make up our home. This month we are going to the kitchen. Lisa has curated multiple cookbooks telling a flavorful story of the food that comes out of our Wyoming kitchens. We are diving into chef’s kitchens, saddling up to a fire pit, and diving into historic recipes that have been passed down through the generations. Lastly we will look at one of the iconic ingredients from our state. Be sure to check out our recipe this month, it comes to us from one of the cook books Lisa choose for us to share this month.

Fire Pit Cooking - By, Vanessa Bante

More than a cook book of recipes and the “how to” of cooking over an open fire, this book highlights types of fire pits and more importantly how to build a fire pit especially for cooking. As well, readers will learn about the different cooking elements needed. From grills to dutch ovens to everything in-between, including sticks and cedar wrapping. The recipes include appetizers, desserts, stews and more. This is the perfect gift for avid outdoors people and those looking to experiment with their cooking techniques. We LOVE this cook book.

Cook fine dining foods that come to us right from our very own Cowboy state. From bison to trout, Indian fry bread to caramel cinnamon rolls. Each of the recipes were curated from chefs and iconic people from all across the state. Now available to you so you can make all of your favorite dishes, from restaurants across the state, right in your kitchen.

Recipe Round-Up - by, Cody Country CattleWomen

This is an heirloom treasure trove of recipes by a group of women who are part of a national group of CattleWomen. These recipes have been used on ranches and fed workers, families, and crews - consider them “ranch kitchen approved” according to the forward. But ultimately all of the collection comes from right here in Wyoming. You can expect to find biscuits, Sunday Fried Chicken, Magnificent Corn Muffins, Branding Time BBQ Steak for 40, Venison Stroganoff and Molasses Sugar Cookies to name a few  of the recipes. Each includes the name of the person who shared their keepsake recipe.

The Huckleberry Book - By, ‘Asta Bowen

What better way to celebrate Wyoming’s treasured huckleberry? I can think of nothing better than this book that discusses everything you need to know. From habitats to harvesting and how the huckleberry was used by native Americans to the pioneers. The end of the book notates some favorite recipes for cooking, baking, confections and even preserving the berries. This is a fantastic book that truly highlights one of the treasured ingredients of our state.
