Sheridan is home to another historic Wyoming rodeo, The Sheridan WYO Rodeo. It has a rich history that has survived the decades. Almost an entire week of events celebrating Wyoming history, the wild west, and the all American cowboys and cowgirls that call Wyoming Home. Be sure to pre-order your tickets, some events are already sold out! The theme for this year is "Sheridan WYO Rodeo Rides Again”!

The history

In 1931 the some community leaders of Sheridan brainstormed ideas to wake up their sleepy town. Together they formed a committee and organized a “world class rodeo” that offered up a $15,000 purse, a parade down main street, and a carnival set up at the fairgrounds. The event was a success and the passion to continue and grow was born; however, the rodeo struggled throughout the years, due to finances, canceled for two years during the war, dealt with growing pains, but the rodeo board, volunteers, sponsors and community have pushed through and persevered helping this rodeo grow and evolve into what it is today.

What it looks like today

Today, the heart of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo is still present and the event has grown to be so much more than a rodeo. The carnival is still actively a part of the celebrations, as is the parade. Today, with all of the activities available, the attendees can explore for days on end. Registration is open and tickets are available for a multitude of events: WYO Rodeo Royalty Pageant, Homebrew festival, 5k’s, bed races, pow wows, pancake breakfasts, and even a Saturday night street dance! There are events starting July 9th, but the Boot Kickoff takes place on July 13th.
