WYld Wyoming Food - Rattlesnake with Wyoming 310

Wyoming Is home to some amazing wildlife and amazing wild game food. None quite as exotic as the rattlesnake. And Morgan from Wyoming 310 has decided to add this delicacy and nontraditional protein to her menu as a special that we can look forward to during the month of July.

The Rattlesnake

Wyoming is home to two native species of rattlesnakes, the prairie rattler and the midget faded rattlesnake. These are the only to venomous snakes in the state. The midget faded rattlesnake prefers canyon habitats and mostly those of the Colorado River drainage.

A Food Source

Accord to the Department of Anthropology at Texas A&M, there is evidence showing that ancient Native Americans were eating rattlesnake, the entire snake (yes, the head too). Little is known about the dining experience, whether it was eaten for a religious experience or for nourishment. It is one of the earliest documented evidence of ancient Native Americans consuming a viperous snake.

Eating Exotic Foods Today

Exotic and unusual protein is showing up on menus across the country. Chefs are stepping back an reexamining natural foods and uncommon foods that are native to regions and cultures. Morgan, along with other chefs across the country are looking to learn more about nontraditional ingredients and bringing them into their kitchens so their patrons can experience something new in the way of food.

Look for it in July
