Showing The Holiday Spirit This Season

Written By: Sarah Reish

When we think about a great dining experience it is easy to list the standard, great drinks and fantastic food; however, we think it is the staff who really makes a difference. We chatted with our Live WYld sponsor, chef and restauranteur Morgan to get her professional feedback. We spoke about her amazing staff, as well as, the current struggle many businesses are facing with staffing shortages. While there is not much we can do about the staffing shortages our conversation focused on celebrating the staff in place and educating the public. Here are three tips to consider this holiday season.

Understanding Situation

Keep your eyes open. While traveling we have been in stores and restaurants alike with only one employee working. Be patient with them. This has been shared on social media, but not only are they working with minimal support, but they showed up and are running from customer to customer knowing it will be a stressful workday. I think for the public this is most prevalent in restaurants, so plan extra time, be aware of their situation and understand this is not their fault. Most are working hard to make the situation invisible to their guests.

Be Patient

Be patient even if you are in a hurry. Especially this time of year, there is an uptick in store and restaurant traffic. More people are running errands and also out enjoying holiday and special outings. If you have noted they’re alone and it is busy acknowledge it and assure them you are aware of their situation. Not only does this provide a little stress relief for your server - but they will appreciate it.

Thanking Staff

For all the support staff, servers, bar tenders, and others showing up everyday, we thank you. Not just as employers, but as your customers, whom you are tirelessly supporting. Whether holiday parties, enjoying dinner with family or friends, or running every day errands, let’s take the time to thank the people working hard during the busiest and most stressful time of the year. We appreciate that you are showing up and giving us a wonderful shopping or dining experience!
