If you are anything like us, it won’t matter that it’s winter - all you want to do is get out and enjoy nature in any way you can. Okay, I have to be honest, when our temps here in Cody hit -17 I was happily working on content for you in a warm hoodie inside my home. That said, I did reach out to our sponsor and favorite curator of Wyoming artisan made products, Lisa - from the Wyoming Buffalo Company.

Wyoming Buffalo Company - The Camp Box

Lisa and I chatted about how we can incorporate winter, artisan products, and adventure together and bring you guys something super cool. We figured it out! A camp box full of great food for winter adventurers. Our box included items for breakfasts, lunches, dinner, and even snacks! Lisa hooked us up and we set out and explored Wyoming.

Cooking while Winter Camping

What is your normal camp kitchen set up? In the summer we usually set out a table with our stove and grill on it. We have a plastic drawer that holds tableware, utensils, spices, and cleaning items (soap, collapsible bin for washing dishes, and sponges). In the winter it is simplified. We don’t set out all our items as they can freeze and won’t be usable. We also don’t spend a great deal of time relaxing in our camp chairs outdoors. We love to use our Jetboil to quickly and efficiently make coffee, boil water, and for dinner we want to cook something warm and hearty. Lisa listened and didn’t disappoint.

Wyoming Camp Box - Breakfast

We immediately make our coffee first thing. Lisa includes our favorite Mystic Monk Coffee in her winter camp box. Our thermos kept it warm while we continued cooking. In our Camp Box we had the choice between huckleberry oatmeal, Miner’s Camp golden flapjack mix with prickly pear syrup, or making eggs with buffalo summer sausage, Road kill hot sauce and Zap’s applewood smoked chipotle cheese. We chose to make the eggs and buffalo summer sausage this morning. Using our camp stove we sautéed the buffalo and added fresh local eggs to make a scramble. It was delicious! We added the chipotle smoked cheese and some of the hot sauce! It was perfect and gave us the energy we needed for our day!

Wyoming Camp Box - Lunch

We kept lunch light and on the go, we had Summer Sausage and Cheese. We brought some homemade bread I baked in our dutch oven and were able to keep things rolling while we explored Shoshone National Forest.

Wyoming Camp Box - Dinner

Dinner is a treat. We spoke to Lisa about some options and really wanted to highlight wild game cooking. We had some ground moose in our freezer so she hooked us up with Chugwater Chili Seasoning. We brought the chili staples, but were using this seasoning for the first time. We also garnished with the Zap’s applewood smoked cheese and hot sauce. It was delicious and warm, perfect after a long day out in nature. The seasoning brought out the great flavor of our moose and we couldn’t have been more pleased with the results of our winter camping dinner. We have our chili recipe available here.

Wyoming Camp Box - Snacks

Lisa didn’t forget to pack us snacks in our Camp Box. We enjoyed Wyoming S’More Crunch popcorn while relaxing by the fire. If you don’t want the mess of making s’mores this is the perfect campfire substitution - And who doesn’t love popcorn!

Wyoming Buffalo Company’s Camp Food Box

This box is perfect. Anyone looking for a unique food experience while adventuring outdoors needs to contact and order one from Wyoming Buffalo Company. We loved the variety, the box was customized for us, and we enjoyed the wonderful flavors. So gear up for your next adventure, order or pick up your camp box, and remember to always Live WYld!
