We always get excited when we get to explore a store that carries unique Wyoming made goods. Kirby Creek Mercantile in Thermopolis was not a disappointment. From home decor to hand made goods that serve a multitude of purposes and even clothing to foods and accessories, this is a place to stop where you can support a local business and local makers. Special thanks to Mike and Reliant Federal Credit Union for sponsoring our small business content!

The store

Located in downtown Thermopolis in a historic building with massive tin ceilings and stunning wood floors is an open concept store filled with local products celebrating Wyoming and the artists who make them. The industrial shelving is full of products ranging from clothing to purses and food to home decor and even antiques. The products are grouped together so you can explore an artisan and all of their products before moving on to the next artisan. There are repurposed items made to be used again and some furniture mixed in. This store embraces the feeling of an old mercantile while celebrating the modern era in which we live. There is a wide selection of goods to peruse, it is a great place to begin marking items off of your Christmas shopping list.

The cafe

Throughout the store tables are set and toward the back of the store is a large counter housing the cafe. The food ranges from breakfast to lunch and you can even order online. For breakfast you can enjoy a hearty breakfast sandwich made with their fresh baked breads, crepes and omelets along with other baked confections. For lunch, diners can enjoy delicious paninis, sandwiches, salads, and even savory crepes and sweet crepes! We thoroughly enjoyed our food and coffee while exploring the Mercantile. We had a breakfast sandwich and enjoyed some warm coffee before heading to check out Hot Springs State Park.

Shopping local

As we head into the holidays we often look for easy ways to get our shopping done and unfortunately many of us tend to order online. Shopping local at places like Kirby Creek Mercantile not only supports a local business owner, it supports local artisans in our communities. Shopping at stores like this one not only keeps money in our community, but it provides income to the small business owners and artisans during the holiday season.

Head to your local stores!

With all of this in mind we want to encourage everyone to shop local and share their shopping adventures with us on social media. Tag us in your posts @LiveWYldMag and use #LiveWYld
